When it came time to choose a hero I decided that I wanted to choose a person who was very actively involved with animals. I found out about an organization called Animal Friends of Connecticut and quickly got in contact with Judy Levy. Levy is the director of Animal Friends of Connecticut, a no-kill all volunteer non-profit animal shelter. While at times there may be a few dogs at the shelter, for the most part the shelter takes in stray abandoned and/or abused cats.
The shelter is greatly concerned for the welfare of animals. That supportive and caring attitude was the first thing that I noticed about Judy during my interview with her. Animal Friends does not post the actual address of the shelter in fear that people might want to harm the animals in residence. Judy also informed me about the adoption process used by the shelter. People who wish to adopt an animal from Animal Friends of Connecticut, are first interviewed away from the shelter then brought to the shelter once it is clear that they are fit to care for the animal. The family understands that by having a pet the family is responsible for it though that animal’s lifetime. To learn more about Animal Friends of Connecticut go to.

Miss Porter’s School 2002
Bronx, New York
Hi! I am Seventeen and from the Bronx, New York. I am a recent Graduate of Miss Porter‚’s School in Farmington. This fall I will begin my first year at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
I decided to take part in the ‚”Act Like You Care” program because I thought it would be a wonderful chance to learn more about photography and community activism. Throughout my time at Miss Porter’s School I took both pottery and jewelry classes, but did not have time to take any photo classes, so I was happy to have the opportunity to learn how to use a camera by participating in the Act Like You Care. However, I got a lot more out of the program than I expected; even though we did do a lot of hard work, I had lots of fun this July and made lots of new friends.
